Current Name: Dar Engblom
E-mail: mengblom@cnonline.net
Status: Married 15 years
Kids: Alyssa - 13, Eric - 10
Where We're Living: Oakdale, MN (northeast of St. Paul)
How We Spend Our Days: Dar works part-time as an Emergency Center RN at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood. A challenging, but very rewarding position. Mark is a Senior Illustrator/Designer for TREND enterprises in New Brighton, creating artwork for educational products and classroom decor.
Hobbies and Interests: Though much of our time is spent doing busy family-stuff, like driving kids to sporting events, music lessons and church activities, we find time for our own interests now and then. Dar enjoys playing rec league volleyball, helping coach Alyssa's basketball team, and Creative Memories scrapbooking. Mark enjoys his computers, gadgets ("I love the 21st century!"), digital movie editing, old Warner Bros. cartoons, and his trillion, gajillion comic books.
Last 20 Years in a Nutshell: Dar: Started her nursing career at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, working in a number of departments, then switched to St. John's Hospital in 1997. Mark: Worked for The Miner Group from 1990-1996 creating kids' promotional products for schools, restaurants and retail accounts. Worked for The Learning Company for a few years designing educational software and creating animation for many of their game titles. Made the move to TREND in '99, and really enjoy the challenge and variety of work.
Built a house in '95 and love our life in Oakdale. Our daughter Alyssa was born in 1991, then our son Eric in 1993, and raising them has been quite an adventure. They're an absolute joy (most of the time).
High School Memories: Meeting each other in Mrs. Meierotto's computer programming class, going to State for Girl's Basketball, Weight-man "training" in track (hurling the "Asinine Stick" with Russ Ridgewell and Scott Udd, moving Coach Ralph's car, and taking regular Dairy Queen "breaks"), joking around with Ole in Mrs. Knoblach's homeroom, bus trips to basketball games while listening to "80's music" (and belting out "YMCA"), homecoming, Queen of Athletics, Pop Concerts, the Proms, Mark as Popeye and Dar as Olive Oyl at the Halloween Dance (while in her knee immobilizer from a volleyball injury), doing summersaults in the back of Mary Settergren's car, the best view in town while eating lunch in our "tuna can" cafeteria, the "Air Jam" contest, hangin' out before and after school, Dar's dad hollering "Eat 'Em Up!" and her mom yelling "Burn 'Em!" at the Girl's basketball games, Godfather's Pizza after the games, sneaking into the Skyline Drive-In while hiding in the car trunk, Mark and Bill Hoyt irritating East cheerleaders with obnoxious cartoon signs, watching Ghostbusters on the last day of school, imitating Mrs. Regina in homeroom with Scott Camps, great conversations, laughter and friends we'll never forget.
